In this step by step lesson, we will learn how to draw a bumblebee with your drawing materials. We will consider the various sizes and shapes of each part of the bumblebee. The lines in each step is drawn out in blue so you can observe the current components that you will be drawing.
Time Needed: 20 minutes

Draw The Body
Using your pencil, draw a small oval shape in the middle of your paper.

Add The Lower Part Of The Body
Now, draw a larger semi circle below the body. Then add curved lines inside.

Draw The Head, Eyes And Antennae
Add the head above the body by drawing a small circle. Then add two small semi circles on the upper left and right part of the head. Add antennae above the head as well.

Outline The Wings
The bumblebee has small symmetrical wings. Follow this demonstration to see how the wings are shaped.

Add The Front And Back Legs
Do not forget to add the legs on our bumblebee drawing. It has short and thin legs, but do notice how the legs are drawn from segments.

Complete Your Drawing
Now we can color our drawing using yellow and black crayons. Do not be afraid to add some highlights and shadows as well.

Bumblebees can be found on every continent besides Antarctica, and because of their ability to pollinate flowers, they are extremely important to plant life.
The queen stays in the hive and can live up to a year. The queen is larger than the worker bees and has a stinger.
Bumblebee workers have stingers that are smooth, unlike the barbed-stingers of honeybees, so they can sting more than once. Male bumblebees do not have stingers, so they cannot sting.
Bumblebees feed on the pollen of flowers and come out at day time. If a bumblebee is threatened or if it feels endangered, it will release a stinger from its abdomen into its enemy.

When a bumblebee returns to the nest, they're going to carry nectar and pollen. The nectar can be a liquid that is a sugary liquid that the bee eats. The bee can also eat parts of the pollen which is a good protein source, but it's all made from plants, flowers and trees.
The bee is going to carry it back to the nest. Some workers can carry as much as 75% or more of their body weight which is incredible to think about!
The Buzzing Busy Bee!
The bumblebee is a fuzzy insect with short and stubby wings. They are larger than honey bees but are unable to produce as much honey. These bees are an important part of an ecosystem being pollinators that help food and plants grow!
Though every species can be found on every continent except the Antarctic, these tiny hard workers are usually found in warmer regions. However, bumblebees can also tolerate regions with colder climates. They can also be found living in high altitude areas like mountain ranges.
The Buzz of the Town
Two-thirds of the world's crops depend on animals to transfer their pollen from one to another. Several ecosystems depend on birds, bats, and butterflies to pollinate but there's no denying that bumblebees contribute the best in most of these ecosystems.
Bumblebees wings beat about 130 times per second or maybe even more! Because of these, their fuzzy bodies vibrate well enough to help flowers release pollen. This method is commonly called "buzz pollination".
Humans and Bumblebees
These bees are essential to the environment, especially to humans. Without bumblebees, food-bearing plants would have difficulty in pollinating and reproducing. Thanks to bumblebees, other plants and flowers are able to grow too!
Some bumblebees are even bred and domesticated for the sole purpose of pollinating crops. This practice helps in the production of the ingredients of meals we have on our plates. Unfortunately, some species fall victim to human activity like destruction of habitat and pollution.
What Can We Do to Protect the Bumblebees?
Bumblebees, and all other sorts of animals around us suffer from the effects of poor environmental awareness. Small steps we can take in order to protect the very species that help feed us, we can first be aware of the environment and be mindful of where we dispose of our trash.
